The Philippines English Language Teaching (PELT) Project

The Philippines English Language Teaching (PELT) Project is an on-going in-service teacher training project of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) of the Government of the Philippines, aimed at upgrading the teaching skills of secondary school teachers of English in Regions CAR, I, V, VI, VIII, IX and XI.

From 1995 - 99, the PELT Project was supported financially by:

and, from 1998 - 99, also by:

  • The British Embassy, Manila.

From 1995 - 99, under the auspices of DECS, the Project was managed by The British Council in Manila and Manchester, and co-ordinated by The Ateneo de Manila University Center for English Language Teaching (ACELT). Consultancy and training services were provided by The Institute for English Language Education (IELE), Lancaster University. The Project Co-ordinator was Ms. Maria Luz C. Vilches, Executive Director, ACELT, and the Lead Consultant was Mr. Alan Waters, Deputy Director, IELE.
